Dear Wheelchair Tennis Stakeholders,
2020 has been a year of uncertainty and trying times, and it has required us all to be flexible and hopefully remain resilient in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Over the past few months, Cajun Classic Tournament Staff and Committee have been working tirelessly through this increasingly unpredictable period in time in order to prepare and provide competitive opportunities for our wheelchair tennis athletes.
In being flexible, this group has taken into consideration various event formats, safety planning based on COVID-19 protocols, and the precedent set by other events and tennis organizations around the globe. Due to the ongoing increases in COVID-19 cases in the USA and the uncertainty of National and Local guidelines that may be implemented due to the increasing numbers, it is the opinion of the Cajun Classic Committee and staff, with the full support of the USTA, that our ITF event be cancelled for 2021.
The USTA only draws will be postponed until later in 2021 with a date TBD.
Please know that this decision was not made lightly, it was made with the health and safety of all stakeholders in mind as well as the numerous and hard-working staff and volunteers.
We look forward to serving you again in the near future.
Regards,
Jennifer Edmonson
Cajun Classic Tournament Director

About the Cajun Classic

The Cajun Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament is sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is one of only two Super Series tournaments in the United States and one of only six Super Series worldwide. Every year, the Cajun Classic attracts top professionals and amateurs from throughout the world.

Players who participate in the Cajun Classic are all ages — seniors to teenagers — and include those who are paraplegics, quadriplegics and amputees, as well as those with birth defects. But, the players’ disabilities have become “different abilities” as they play amazing and highly-competitive tennis.

The Cajun Classic is supported by the United States Tennis Association (USTA), USTA-Southern Section, the Louisiana Tennis Association (LTA), and the Greater Baton Rouge Community Tennis Association (GBRCTA), which is the presenting sponsor.
